Pride and Prejudice By Jane Austen

At Heywood House performed by Illyria

Sunday 3rd September 2023
Gates open: 2.00 pm | Performance starts: 4.00 pm

We are delighted to welcome back internationally acclaimed theatre group, Illyria, to Heywood House for an outdoor performance of Jane Austen’s classic, ‘Pride and Prejudice’. Join us for an afternoon of live theatre and merriment, and why not upgrade your ticket to include one of our delicious homemade cream teas to be enjoyed within the beautiful grounds of the estate.

Heywood House has a fascinating history of over 400 years and is now transformed into dedicated offices, meeting rooms and co-working spaces for the business community. The classic country estate is set within 30 acres of glorious grounds and parklands with stunning views of the Westbury White Horse and beyond. The show takes place in our outdoor theatre, situated behind the stunning walled garden, converted from a pit where previous owner, Baron Ludlow, once upon a time would have had his coach and horses washed after a long journey.

Performed by Illyria

Illyria’s production of Jane Austen’s glorious social comedy attracted sell-out audiences for a total of six years. It toured throughout the UK and Europe, attracted nationwide critical acclaim.

In a whirlwind of balls, dinners and very eligible officers, Lizzy Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy stand alone as the only sane, thoughtful people – and they hate each other! Or do they? Can she see beyond his pride, and can he overcome her prejudice, in order to achieve happiness?

If your idea of Jane Austen is stuffy costume drama then this sparkling adaptation may make you change your mind. Bring a picnic and have a ball as the irrepressible Illyria sharpen their claws to bring you Jane Austen at her vibrant, bitchy best!
